2022 has been declared by the UN the
‘Year of Glass’. FMR pays tribute to this versatile material in its own way: one column dwells on the specific difficulties encountered in setting up an exhibition of artistic transparencies, while another very thorough and beautifully photographed piece shows us the work of the Blaschkas, Bohemian craftsmen who populated the museums of the world in the second half of the 19th century with their glass models of marine invertebrates.
Now we voyage to other mysterious creatures of the sea, the Sirens, through an investigation by Maurizio Bettini, with mythological figures painted in Rome, a lesser known series by Pinturicchio. Fashion designer Antonio Marras dedicates admiring words to Roberto Capucci and his iconic clothes, while Archistar Oscar Tusquets Blanca pays homage to the work of one of his predecessors, presenting us with the Umbracle in Barcelona, a curious building in which sun and water rain down from the sky. Another ironic and interesting column tells us about the dizzying prices often fetched in auctions by copies of the Mona Lisa. A good part of the issue then is dedicated to encounters between East and West: the rediscovery of the Greek-Buddhist art of Gandhara which is contrasted by Galileo Chini’s work as decorator of the Throne Palace in Bangkok.
